The story of this edition
This knife is the miniature version of the Volcano Opinel, the 6-metre-high ramp at the Versus Skatepark in Maurienne, Savoy. Since 2019 a different artist has decorated the ramp every year. In 2026 Opinel chose Jeremy Fish, a San Francisco illustrator linked to the skate world. His style mixes pop culture, folklore and comics.
For Jeremy Fish it is a personal project. One of his grandfathers sold knives door to door, the other was a cabinetmaker who collected knives. With this design he wanted to pay tribute to both.
Blade and handle
The blade is made of stainless steel with a hardness of 55-57 HRC. It cuts well, resists wear and needs no special maintenance in normal use. The design is etched on both sides.
The handle is made of PEFC-certified hornbeam from the Jura and Vercors. It is a light wood with little grain, which makes it ideal for full-colour decoration over its entire surface.
The stainless steel Virobloc ring locks the blade both open and closed.
The knife comes in dedicated packaging with an illustrated booklet.
The history of Opinel
Opinel was born in 1890 in Savoy, when Joseph Opinel made his first folding knife: simple, sturdy and affordable for everyone. Since 1909 the brand has been the “crowned hand”. In 1955 Marcel Opinel invented the Virobloc ring, which locks the blade both open and closed. The N°08 has become the symbol of the company and was included among the 100 most beautiful objects in the world by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Opinel still makes its knives in Savoy, as it has for over 130 years.
The knife comes with FREE custom engraving. We do NOT hand-sharpen this knife: if you would like us to, please ask for it in the order notes.
