A collector’s edition
The N°08 Damas Ziricote is a limited series of 5,000 pieces. It brings together two premium materials on Opinel’s most famous model.
The blade is made of Damasteel®, a stainless Damascus steel produced by powder metallurgy. Two stainless steel alloys in powder form are compacted, sintered and forged. After grinding and polishing, the blade is dipped in an acid bath that reveals the layers and the Sparse Twist™ pattern. The design varies from blade to blade.
The handle is made of Ziricote, a Central American wood with deep brown tones and almost black grain. Colours and patterns change from knife to knife, so every handle is different.
The stainless steel Virobloc ring has an anthracite titanium finish that matches the dark tones of the wood and blade.
Packaging
The knife comes in an oak wood case with a leather strap. Inside there is a black lambskin pouch made in France and the instructions for use.
The history of Opinel
Opinel was born in 1890 in Savoy, when Joseph Opinel made his first folding knife: simple, sturdy and affordable for everyone. Since 1909 the brand has been the “crowned hand”. In 1955 came the Virobloc ring, which locks the blade both open and closed. The N°08 has become the symbol of the company and was included among the 100 most beautiful objects in the world by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Opinel still makes its knives in Savoy, as it has for over 130 years.
The knife comes with FREE custom engraving. We do NOT hand-sharpen this knife: if you would like us to, please ask for it in the order notes.
